The ResurFX™ is a true fractional non-ablative skin resurfacing technology used to improve the texture and tone of your skin.
Unlike other fractional technologies, ResurFX™ only requires one pass to be effective, saving you time and protecting your skin. ResurFX™ uses a 1565 nm fiber laser and a very advanced scanner, which enables your provider to choose from more than 600 combinations of shape, size and density for optimal treatment.
According to its manufacturer (Lumenis) ResurFX™ offers a number of advantages when compared with similar treatments:
ResurFX™ is among the most versatile treatments we offer. Laser skin resurfacing treatments with this system can improve:
The ResurFX™ laser was developed by Lumenis®, one of the world's leading makers of medical devices, as a skin resurfacing option that prioritizes patient comfort just as much as effectiveness. It is a non-ablative laser, meaning it stimulates the skin to develop collagen without harming any tissue. As collagen grows, the skin looks tighter, more even, and more youthful. ResurFX™ is also a fractional laser, meaning the laser light that is delivered to the skin is divided into tiny dots. Unlike other fractional devices, ResurFX™ requires only one pass over the skin to produce effective results, reducing treatment time. The device allows for highly customizable treatments, as we can adjust factors such as laser shape, size, density, and energy strength to fit each patient's precise needs.
During a ResurFX™ laser skin rejuvenation treatment at our practice, we can use a topical anesthetic. However, due to the non-ablative nature of the laser, most patients find treatments extremely comfortable. The FDA-cleared system includes temperature-monitoring CoolScan™ technology to ensure the skin always stays protected. Treatments can take 30 minutes or more, depending on the size of the targeted area. Multiple treatments spaced several weeks apart produce the best results.
Patients can return to their everyday activities immediately after a ResurFX™ treatment. Mild redness, tingling, or swelling may be present for up to a week, but these side effects should fade quickly and be easily concealed by makeup. It's important for patients to properly protect their skin from the sun after a laser treatment.

There are two primary types of photofacials (or fotofacials), LED and intense pulsed light (IPL). LED photofacials are a gentle treatment that stimulates collagen production. LED photofacials are less potent, but do produce results for younger-looking skin and acne-reduction.
IPL photofacials are used to treat uneven skin tone, vascular issues, and damaged skin texture for total facial rejuvenation. The intense pulsed light used in this style of treatment is far more powerful, providing greater effects.
IPL photofacials are both more common and more effective. IPL photofacials can treat:
The length of your IPL photofacial will vary depending on what skin conditions are being treated. Most photofacials fall somewhere between 30 – 45 minutes. During the non-invasive procedure, your healthcare provider will use a device to administer high-energy broadband light to your face. This light targets pigmentation and eliminates it, which reduces spots and wrinkles. As a positive side-effect, the intense pulsed light also stimulates collagen. When collagen is stimulated, your skin becomes tighter, supple and more youthful.
During the procedure, you will likely be provided with a covering to shield your eyes. The IPL can get hot, so most machines feature a built-in cooling fan. Your doctor may also provide a topical anesthetic to make the experience more pleasant.
IPL photofacial utilizes a medical device that delivers a series of gentle pulses of visible light onto the surface of your skin. In a series of treatments, the pulses of light target the skin to effectively eliminate redness, broken capillaries, hyperpigmentation (brown spots), sun damage, large pores, fine lines, and rosacea conditions. Some clients choose to have chemical peels or microdermabrasion treatments in conjunction with IPL treatments to enhance results.
Any part of your body with uneven skin tone, diffuse redness, or pigmented areas can be safely treated. The face, chest, shoulders and arms are the most common areas for IPL treatment because they typically have had the most sun exposure.
Just before an IPL treatment, your practitioner will provide you with protective eyewear and apply gel to the areas to be treated. During the treatment, the cool, glass surface of the IPL handpiece is gently applied to the skin. A pulse of light is then delivered to the skin surface. Many clients describe the feeling as a mild, brief pinching sensation.
On average, 4-6 treatments are recommended, scheduled at 3-4 week intervals. However, results may vary on an individual basis.
Immediately following an IPL treatment, you may have some slight reddening of the skin which typically subsides within a couple of hours. Sun damage spots and age spots temporarily darken, and over the course of 1-3 weeks, the darkened spots will flake off and fade, leaving you with a clear complexion.
Many clients see significant improvement within the first few treatments. IPL photofacial provides gradual, natural improvement with excellent long-term results. You will notice a reduction in redness, flushing and dilated capillaries. Your skin will look healthier as sun damage, fine lines, pore size, and irregular pigmentation is minimized. Results from an IPL treatment series typically last for a year or longer.
Over time, new spots may appear if there is sufficient sun exposure. These can also be removed. It is imperative to apply sunscreen when outdoors to minimize sun damage and the appearance of new spots and excessive redness.
